2010
Dear Friends and colleagues
On behalf of the Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA) it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Melbourne, Australia. The theme of Stroke 2010 is “Providing 21st Century Stroke Care”. The meeting will draw together clinicians, researchers and scientists from a wide range of backgrounds who share the common goal of reducing the burden of stroke. The extensive program includes high quality international and national speakers, interactive workshops and poster sessions, covering a broad range of specialty areas.
We are delighted to have as keynote speakers Professor George Howard, from University of Alabama in Birmigham, USA, who will share his vast experience in large trials and epidemiology, including the groundbreaking REGARDS study of increased stroke deaths in the south-eastern ‘stroke belt’ states of the US; Professor Marie- Germaine Bousser, Professor of Neurology, Paris, France, who will draw on her expertise across acute stroke treatments, secondary prevention with anticoagulants, risk reduction in patients with and without diabetes, diffusion-weighted imaging in cerebral venous thrombosis, migraine and vascular dementia; and Associate Professor Nicol Korner-Bitensky from McGill Universities Centre de Recherche Interdisciplinaire en Réadaptation and the Canadian Stroke Networks Rehabilitation Stream, Canada, who will share her experiences in driving change in rehabilitation care.
Dedicated sessions and workshops on Stroke in Indigenous and Disadvantaged Populations, Australian Telestroke Experience, Nutritional Depletion, Small Vessel Disease, Palliative Care, Neurointervention, Rehabilitation and Stroke in Developing Countries will showcase the breadth of work currently undertaken within the stroke community.
This conference provides the opportunity for young and emerging researchers to showcase their work, seek advice and develop relationships with like minded individuals, and for experienced researchers and clinicians to share experiences, successes and challenges with others interested in stroke. The social program is an important part of any meeting and Stroke 2010 will provide a number of opportunities for delegates to strengthen old collaborations and form new ones as you enjoy excellent Australian food, wine and entertainment. Exhibitors will offer demonstrations of the latest technical innovations and approaches to clinical service delivery over the course of the conference and a number of industry partners have supported the event. We offer a variety of registration options, including full delegate for maximum value, one-day registration for flexibility and others with special requirements.
Stroke 2010 promises to be an outstanding event and I look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne this September.
Julie Bernhardt
